Summary

Dr. Demitropoulos is a proud University of Nevada, Reno graduate. She graduated in 2004 from the Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her first job as a nurse was on a Medical/Oncology Unit at a local hospital. While working as a new nurse, she decided to continue her studies at Orvis to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing as a Nurse Educator and graduated in 2007. She fell in love with the Oncology field and became certified in Chemotherapy and Biotherapy in 2010 and an Oncology Certified Nurse in 2012. In 2010, she started teaching at the Orvis School of Nursing on a letter of appointment basis until 2013 when she joined the Orvis School of Nursing as full-time faculty. In addition to teaching at Orvis, Dr. Demitropoulos continues to practice nursing at a local hospital in the Oncology field in a per diem status. She loves being a part of the community of nursing and am an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International and the Oncology Nursing Society. Teaching students and caring for the oncology population are two of the biggest honors in her life!

Dr. Demitropoulos’ research interests include anything in the oncology field, nutrition and death and dying. She has a passion for nurses mental wellbeing and self-care and preventing compassion fatigue and burnout.

  • Awarded the 40 Under 40 Award from the Nevada Nurses Foundation, Spring 2016
  • Awarded Most Inspirational Faculty at the Orvis School of Nursing, Fall 2016
  • Nominated for Nurse of Achievement 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023
  • Nominated for the Orvis School of Nursing Teaching Award, Spring 2020 & Spring 2021
