Dear Wolf Pack Family,
Let me begin by saying congratulations to all of our students, faculty and staff for another memorable and successful academic year. This week marks the return of our Spring Commencement Ceremonies on the historic University Quadrangle. It is difficult to express the excitement and anticipation I am feeling as we get closer to celebrating and honoring our incredible students that have inspired so many of us as members of our Wolf Pack Family.
Before we embark on this historic rite of passage, I wish to thank you all for the work that has been done during the 2021-22 academic year. Every academic year is different, of course. This past academic year might be one that is remembered as a time where we laid an important foundation for what is yet to come.
The commitment that our students, faculty and staff demonstrated to one another has been inspiring. The fact that institutional goals and purposes were realized, more than two years into the pandemic, speaks to how much the people of our University care about our mission and values. The deep sense of community that runs through our campus truly defines us as a special place where achievement is measured in lives that are transformed by the important work that all of you are doing.
Each of you have had a hand in all of this, and so much more.
Starting on Thursday, we will see in person why the work of our University is so valuable. In 1891, the University’s first graduating class consisted of three students. Over the course of three days this week, in six different ceremonies, we will confer 3,213 degrees, representing 169 different majors.
It will be a time to celebrate. And as we tell our graduates to look to the future, it will be a time for our University to do the same. The time we face will not be without its challenges. But each and every one of you, throughout this past year, have shown why our University is such a special place. Your commitment to changing our world every day only deepens. The depth of character that you demonstrate on behalf of the University of Nevada, Reno is a reservoir that we draw upon every day.
