College of Engineering Dean Erick Jones has been named to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for STEM Education Advisory Committee. Jones, who began his three-term in January, joins a group of national leaders, researchers and practitioners in providing insights and recommendations on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. His role includes assessing STEM education in the United States, evaluating program results, achieving overall program balance and long-term strategic planning.

“The University of Nevada, Reno is committed to STEM education that will prepare our students for careers in various STEM industries,” University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval said. “We are pleased that Dean Erick Jones will be contributing to this effort on a national scale through the NSF Directorate for STEM Education Advisory Council.”

Jones joined the University of Nevada, Reno in September 2022, after a term as senior science advisor in the Office of the Chief Economist at the U.S. State Department. Jones leads a nationally ranked College of Engineering that prioritizes student access and success as one of its main operational pillars. Focusing on student success, increasing access to higher education, increasing student wellness, accelerating the use of digital technology in the delivery of education and preparing the future workforce all are of primary importance.
