Wolf Pack Athletics and Girls on the Run-Sierras will again join forces to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day this February at the University of Nevada.

The Feb. 2 game vs. San Jose State, which is sponsored by Renown Health, will be Nevada's Pink Game, promoting breast cancer awareness. The new football staff will be introduced during the game as well.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, Nevada will highlight the transformational power of girls' participation in sports and will hold a special halftime performance with all kids in attendance. The Wolf Pack cheer team will hold a pre-game clinic starting at 1 p.m. that day in the Kids Zone on the upper concourse of Lawlor Events Center, and all kids in attendance (regardless of clinic attendance) will then be invited to perform on the court at halftime of the Wolf Pack women's basketball game vs. Fresno State that day. The game will also kick off the Pack's celebration of Black History Month. This game is also sponsored by Have a Heart Washoe County.

Tickets are $5, and Wolf Pack fans with season or single-game tickets can also participate in the events. Tickets can be purchased now online at www.NevadaWolfPack.com or in-person by visiting the box office at Lawlor Events Center.

Groups of 20 or more can pre-purchase tickets for only $3 per ticket and get their group name on our videoboard at either game by contacting rmelen@unr.edu.

This marks the fifth year that Nevada Athletics, which sponsors 10 women's sports that benefit over 240 female student-athletes, will team up with Girls on the Run-Sierras to celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day. This year's events will also kick off Nevada's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Nevada Athletics will highlight the history of Wolf Pack women's athletics over the next 10 months and will announce more events at a later date.

In its 36th year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day acknowledges the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. It is celebrated annually in all 50 states with events, awards ceremonies and other activities. Nevada aims to celebrate the power and potential of girls and women by empowering them to participate in sports and embrace physical activity.

For more information on the event, contact Senior Associate Athletics Director Rhonda Bennett at 775-682-6981 or rlundin@unr.edu.
