Construction on the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County’s ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street Project is on schedule. Construction will move northward as work begins on the segment near the University of Nevada, Reno Monday, March 16, 2020. 

The RTC is continuing outreach efforts to the University area by inviting the community to enjoy cookies with the construction team Friday, March 6 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Insomnia Cookies, located at 935 N. ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ St. Attendees can enjoy cookies while they learn about upcoming construction operations. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions. 

While construction on the segment of the project near the University will be on ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street between Interstate 80 and Lawlor Events Center, the construction beginning on March 16 will only include the demolition of the section on the east side of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street between 8th Street and 9th Street. Construction on the sidewalks and roundabout will begin April 1. 

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street Project Construction Timeline near the University:

  • March 16 – summer: Demolition of the east side of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street between 8th Street and 9th
  • April 1– Mid-summer: Construction on the east side of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street between Interstate 80 and the West Stadium Parking Lot. Construction on the roundabout begins. Two-way traffic in place.
  • Summer – November: Construction on the west side of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street between Interstate 80 and the West Stadium Parking Lot. Construction on the roundabout continues. One-way traffic in place.

Work on this segment of the project will be conducted concurrently with the Midtown segment of the project. The entire ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street Project is expected to be complete by November of 2020, weather permitting. 

About the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street Project:

The ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension Project will improve safety and provide better access, enhanced transit service and improved mobility for everyone. This includes extending the RAPID ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Line from Midtown to the University. The project represents an $87-million investment in our community. 

The project is funded with fuel tax revenue, sales tax revenue and federal funds.
