The Graduate Student Association's Unity in Diversity celebration returns

GSA brings the free Unity in Diversity celebration back on April 22, 2023

Spring is an exciting time to be on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno with saying goodbye to winter and the beautiful flowers of campus start to awaken. The campus being prepared to look its best as hundreds gather for the spring commencement ceremonies on the historic quad. At the Graduate Student Association (GSA), spring is a time when many annual events take place such as the Champagne Toast, Elections, Spring Awards, and Graduate Student Appreciation Week.

A long-standing tradition for the GSA is to hold Unity in Diversity (UiD), typically done in collaboration to open the Northern Nevada Diversity Summit. Unfortunately, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our campus, we were unable to host this event for several years. However, the GSA is pleased to announce UiD will make its grand return to the University of Nevada, Reno campus in April 2023.

Since this will be the return of UiD since its impact from the COVID-19 pandemic began, the GSA has decided to make a large comeback like never before. This year’s UiD program will be happening in conjunction with Earth Day with the goal is to extend the impact of UiD to include the critical need to raise environmental awareness and help change our impact on the Earth, which will ensure that diverse generations to come will be able to enjoy a healthy and comfortable environment on our planet.

Giving back to our planet is key for every generation, and the diversity of life we have on this beautiful planet should be celebrated. From the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to the Sierra Nevada, Earth is our home and we should protect it.

UiD is a diverse and engaging fundraising event that celebrates and promotes unity through the understanding and appreciation of differences. This year’s event would not be possible without the vision of GSA External Vice President Taissa Lytchenko and her team, who envisioned taking UiD to a new level for its return and dedicated to giving back to the community.

UiD will feature a variety of speakers, performances, and artistic expressions; University and local community clubs, organizations, non-profits, businesses, and sponsors; as well as local crafts, artists, and vendors.

Please join the GSA for this free grand event on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 12-5 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union, Gateway Plaza. We encourage both the campus community and Reno-Sparks community to join us in celebrating diversity. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local indigenous, environmental, non-profit organizations & the University of Nevada, Reno Graduate Student Emergency Fund.
