Introducing Romando Nash, incoming Associate Vice President for Student Life Services

Nash brings a strong portfolio of experience that will help him succeed in leading division and institutional initiatives around student success for our increasingly diverse student body.

I am pleased to announce that Romando Nash, J.D. has accepted the position of Associate Vice President for Student Life Services replacing Dr. Jerry Marczynski upon his retirement this summer. Romando brings a strong portfolio of experience that will help him succeed in leading division and institutional initiatives around student success for our increasingly diverse student body. He comes to this Student Services leadership position from his current role as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at San Jose State University. He has also held previous associate dean and director positions in student affairs at the University of Southern California, Loyola University, Seattle University and Santa Clara University.

Romando brings to Nevada a breadth of successful experiences in higher education. I believe his knowledge and understanding of student life will enhance our progress in fostering a campus culture that supports student learning and graduation from the University of Nevada, Reno. His innovative approach to issues facing today's students complements the creative momentum of the exemplary directors and staff within the Division of Student Services.

"I am honored, humbled and excited to join the University of Nevada, Reno community," Nash said. "During the search process, I was struck by the enthusiasm and passion that everyone I met had for the University. I look forward to partnering with the outstanding professionals in the Division of Student Services, faculty and academic leaders to further develop the integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences that supports the development of each student. I am eager to meet more of the University's student community and begin to work on their behalf."

Our national search yielded a very strong pool of candidates. I'd like to thank Melisa Choroszy for chairing the search committee whose members included Sheena Harvey, Anthony Martinez, Jose Miguel Pulido Leon, David Shintani and Hila Talgan. A very special thank you to Jackie Kuhn for her exceptional work as the search coordinator. I appreciate the work of each of these colleagues who gave their time and expertise to the search process.

Romando will begin his position Monday, June 10, 2019. He and his wife, Wendy, along with their two children, will be visiting campus and the community the week of March 27, 2019, beginning their exciting transition to Nevada. Please join me in welcoming them to the Pack.
