About Master of the Universe: On Power – a one-act play

Author Steven Nightingale will premier his new one-act play, Master of the Universe: On Power, on the Classical Tahoe stage on Saturday, July 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe.

A wealthy, brilliant scientist and capitalist gives a speech at the World Energy Forum. He offers, for the first time, the truth about his work of power.

He is deeply involved in the great issues of our time. To these issues he has brought his study and gifts, and he wields the mastery he has seized.

He has solved the equation of power. Who must die as the calculation is made final?

“To the crises of our time, everyone must respond as they can, whatever their work. Writers must use their pen—which is all they have— to portray the truth, no matter how agonizing it may be. It is the simple job of all the arts: to call for wakefulness.

We remember Thoreau’s line in Walden: “In sane moments we regard only the facts, the case that is. Say what you have to say, not what you ought…Only that day dawns to which we are awake.”
